CARE GUIDE

Caring for Your Chess Set

Care depends on the materials and construction of your Pandhess chess set. These general instructions cover our wooden boards, metal and crystal pieces, magnetic sets, folding boards and storage drawers. Always check the care instructions on your product page for guidance specific to your model.

01

Wooden Chessboards

Wipe wooden boards, including our maple, walnut and mahogany models, with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid abrasive products and chemical cleaners. Keep the board away from prolonged exposure to moisture, direct sunlight and excessive heat.

If the board gets wet, gently dry the affected area with a soft cloth. Do not soak the board or apply wax, oil or polish unless the product’s finish and care instructions specifically allow it.

02

Metal and Electroplated Pieces

Clean cast metal and electroplated pieces with a clean, soft, non-abrasive cloth. Avoid metal polish, solvents and chemical cleaners, which may affect the finish. Handle the pieces individually and return them to their fitted spaces before storing the set.

On sets with weighted acrylic bases, avoid dropping the pieces or knocking their bases against the board.

03

Crystal Pieces and Reflective Boards

For the Lumen, wipe the reflective board with a soft microfiber cloth and clean the crystal pieces with a separate, non-abrasive cloth. Lift each piece when making a move rather than sliding it across the board. Handle the pieces individually and avoid impacts.

The Lumen has a fixed board. Remove and store its pieces separately before moving the board.

04

Magnetic Chess Sets

Magnetic pieces, including those supplied with the Equinox and Atlas, can be wiped with a soft, dry cloth. Their magnets help limit unintended movement, but do not lock the pieces in place. Keep the board horizontal during play and move it carefully.

05

Folding Boards and Fitted Storage

Open and close a folding board on a flat, stable surface. Before closing it, place each piece in its fitted compartment and check that no piece is resting on the edge of the case. Close the board gently; do not force the hinge or clasps.

For models with drawers, return the pieces to their fitted spaces before closing the drawers. Slide drawers gently and lift the board by its base when moving it. Do not carry a chess set by its drawers.

06

Storing Your Set

Store your chess set in a dry indoor space, away from prolonged direct sunlight and excessive heat. Keep loose pieces together and protected from impacts. If your set has fitted storage, use the spaces provided so the pieces remain separated between games.
